Block seminar "Hacking Innovation Bias"
All places for the winter semester 2024/25 have been allocated.
Lecturers: Dr Clemens Striebing, Dr Regina Sipos, Carolin Clausnitzer
"Shrink it and pink it" is the common formula for taking gender into account in the development of innovations. Led by Dr Clemens Striebing and Dr Regina Sipos, the students in the block seminar, which has been offered since 2018, examine the extent to which gender stereotypes are reproduced in research and development processes in engineering and technology sciences and what this means for the end products of these processes.
Students receive an introduction to the approaches of critical engineering, design and making as well as the basics of technology development and design processes. In group work, they will explore the question of how design and technology can make a critical and reflective contribution to overcoming gender bias in engineering and technology sciences. As part of a mini hackathon, the ideas developed will be physically realized and tested in prototypes with the help of experts from the Technologiestiftung Berlin. Modern rapid prototyping technologies such as 3D printing, CNC milling, microcontrollers, sensors and simple IoT devices will be used for this.
The seminar takes place in hybrid form in cooperation between TU Berlin and TU Munich. There are face-to-face and online events. Online-only participation is possible. All seminar work can be completed in German and English. The seminar language is English.
The limited places for the seminar will be allocated in the order of registration. Please register with Dr. Clemens Striebing.
